May is National Walking Month – the perfect opportunity to lace up your trainers, step outside (or indoors) and discover how even a short walk can make a big difference to your physical and mental wellbeing.

Walking is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to stay active. Whether you’re enjoying a peaceful stroll in the countryside or dancing your way through an indoor WalkFit class, moving more brings a host of benefits: from boosting your mood and energy levels, to improving heart health, reducing stress and connecting with others.

At One You Cheshire East, we’re proud to support local residents in finding enjoyable, friendly and achievable ways to get moving. Two of our popular options during National Walking Month are WalkFit and Ramblers Wellbeing Walks.

WalkFit: Step up indoors with music and motivation

Don’t let unpredictable weather or busy schedules stop you from building your step count. WalkFit is our indoor, low-impact aerobics class designed especially for beginners. This upbeat 45 minute session takes place in a studio environment, where you’ll be guided through simple, easy to follow routines set to energising music.

Whether you’re looking to increase your daily steps, boost your stamina, or simply feel good through movement, WalkFit provides a fun and inclusive space to exercise with others. It’s perfect for anyone easing back into fitness or wanting to add more activity to their week in a supportive and welcoming setting.

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks: Explore Cheshire on foot

Prefer to get your steps in outdoors? Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, led by trained local volunteers in partnership with Everybody Health & Leisure, offer weekly short walks in towns and rural areas across Cheshire East. These walks are ideal for those who want to be more active, meet new people and explore the beautiful natural spaces on our doorstep.

Spending time outdoors has proven benefits. From reducing anxiety and improving mood, to giving us a valuable chance to unplug, breathe fresh air and enjoy the seasons. Walking with others adds a layer of motivation, companionship and the joy of shared experiences.
