When Rosemarie and David first heard about the Stand Strong programme, it came through a simple recommendation from a friend already taking part. What followed was a six-month journey that has made a real difference to their everyday lives.
“We were told we were the right age group for a free six-month exercise programme designed to strengthen muscles and joints and support everyday living. We thought it was a great idea and were keen to give it a go.”
Like many participants, Rosemarie and David joined the programme with clear goals. David had previously torn muscles in his knee and wanted to rebuild strength, while they both wanted to prepare their bodies for later life and maintain their independence.
From the very start, progress was carefully tracked through assessments, and the results spoke for themselves.
“After our initial assessment and another one at the end of the six months, we could see just how much we’d improved. The difference was immense.”
Those improvements soon translated into everyday benefits. Tasks that once felt challenging became easier and more manageable.
“Our day-to-day lives have improved considerably such as household chores, gardening, getting in and out of the car, and walking using the techniques we’ve been taught.”
Beyond the physical gains, the experience of attending the sessions played a huge role in keeping motivation high.
“We loved all elements of the sessions. Everything made sense and was delivered in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Reece and Molly made it fun to take part.”
The instructors’ supportive approach helped everyone feel welcome and confident.
“They were always friendly and encouraging, and they remembered everyone’s names very quickly. That really made a difference and helped everyone to feel included.”
Now, Rosemarie and David are passionate advocates for the programme.
“We tell friends, neighbours and family members of a similar age that it’s the best exercise group we’ve been to together. We thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and genuinely felt the benefits.”
Their message is simple: “We recommend the class wholeheartedly.”
