Sweet or Savoury? Pancakes Made Healthier

Published: 17 February 2026

Do pancakes leave you feeling hungry, even though you’ve eaten your bodyweight in sugar and lemon? You’re not alone. Traditional toppings can be tasty, but all that refined sugar can leave your stomach feeling surprisingly empty.

This pancake day, our Re-Shape team are here to share their top tips to add a little extra protein, fibre and flavour to make every bite go further.

So why not start with something a bit more filling? A savoury pancake packed with protein is an easy way to stay fuller for longer and still enjoy your favourite sweet toppings afterwards. Try making buckwheat galettes topped with ham, cheese and mushrooms, or goat cheese and rosemary.

Prefer something sweet? Add a spoonful of 0% Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or nut butter to help regulate your appetite.

Pancake Day’s also a great chance to play around with new flavours. And a good excuse to add more nourishing ingredients too.

A simple swap like using wholemeal flour instead of white, or mixing in some ground flaxseed, boosts the fibre and gives your pancakes a slightly nutty flavour.

You could add a handful of chia or pumpkin seeds to the mix, or just sprinkle them on top. Quick, easy and packed with goodness.

So go on and enjoy Pancake Day your way.
