
When JaquI first joined the Stand Strong exercise programme, she was living with neuropathy, a condition that affects the nerves and causes a loss of sensation in the feet.
Everyday movements like walking and balancing were difficult, and her confidence had dropped.
“I was scared of falling,” she explains.
“But I knew that if I didn’t do anything, it would get worse. I didn’t want to give up.”
Jaqui decided to take that first step and join our Stand Strong Programme, which helps people improve their strength, balance, and confidence through gentle, tailored exercise.
“My condition makes me feel less confident,” she says, “but by moving, I wanted to take control of my health and keep going.”
Although the early sessions felt challenging, Jaqui soon began to notice the benefits. “I felt apprehensive at first, but it got better. The coaching and support from all the coaches has been excellent. I felt safe, and the exercises were just right for me.”
Over the weeks, Jaqui’s determination paid off. “I’ve grown in strength and confidence, and I’m much more mobile,” she says. “The sit-to-stand exercises have really helped my strength and posture. After each class I feel invigorated and I’m definitely better with it than without it!”
Now, exercising has become a regular part of Jaqui’s daily routine. “I do the exercises every morning, it’s how I start my day” she says proudly.
Her advice to anyone considering joining the programme is simple “Just go for it… it’s wonderful!”
