Angela (46), Phillip (44), and their son Kieran have completed 12 weeks on the Let’s Get Movin’ programme at Crewe Lifestyle Centre. What began as a way to help Kieran get more active has led to sustained changes in the family’s routine, activity levels, and overall wellbeing.
The family first discovered the programme through a Facebook post, the chance to take part exercising together removed a key barrier and gave them a clear starting point.
“My son wanted to get fitter, but we struggled to find a gym who would take an under 16. When we saw this and that we could do it as a family, we jumped at the chance.”
Before joining, the family described their lifestyle as inactive, with little regular exercise. They were looking for a structured way to build healthier habits and maintain motivation.
Over the 12-week programme, their routine has shifted. They now attend the gym two to three times a week and regularly take part in racket sports at the weekend. Angela and Phillip have also added aqua aerobics classes into their week, introducing variety and helping them stay consistent.
These changes have had a measurable impact. The family report improved fitness and increased energy levels, alongside benefits to their mental wellbeing.
“We didn’t really exercise at all and needed something to spur us on, and this has helped massively. We are all fitter, but mentally we’re much better too.”
A key outcome for the family has been finding activities they enjoy and can continue beyond the programme. Weekend racket sports have become a regular part of their routine, offering both physical benefits and time spent together. The structure of Let’s Get Movin’ allowed them to try different activities and identify what works for them as a family.
Completing the programme has given them confidence to continue independently, with a clear routine already in place. Their approach to health is now built around consistency, shared activity, and maintaining momentum.
“Do it! It’s been brilliant for us as a family and we’re going to carry on with it. The 12 weeks really does give you a chance to try everything and find what you enjoy doing the most.”
