One You Cheshire East’s Stand Strong service provided ‘Cuppa & Chat’ sessions to more than 200 residents

During Falls Awareness Week, 18-22 September, One You Cheshire East’s Stand Strong service provided ‘Cuppa & Chat’ sessions to more than 200 residents across nine local venues to bring residents together and spread awareness of falls prevention.

The Cuppa & Chat sessions included time to socialise with tea, coffee and cake along with a 15-minute educational talk by one of our Health Coaches who provided information on exercises to prevent falls and how to age well. The sessions provided participants an opportunity to learn and engage socially with their peers who are also experiencing challenges with their balance and mobility. We welcomed residents of Cheshire East to venues in Goostrey, Poynton, Nantwich, Macclesfield, Alsager, Sandbach, Crewe, Congleton and Wilmslow.

Attendees told us that they felt the Cuppa & Chat sessions had improved their knowledge around the subject of falls prevention, and that they felt more confident in taking action to help reduce their chances of falling in the future. The participants who had been taking part in the Stand Strong service also reported that since joining the programme they had improved their physical mobility, pain management, and confidence, but also made friends along the way which has supported in reducing their loneliness.

Our Health Coaches found the sessions a great success and felt the information was well received. Additionally, we registered 32 residents of Cheshire East onto One You services, meaning more people in the community are now taking steps to lead a healthier life and reduce their chances of falling in the future. Of those 32 we have 29 participants now regularly participating in the classes and reaping the health benefits of strength and balance exercise.
